Mexico Lindo

Mexico combo:  Chicken Mini Quesadilla and Taco
So it was Mexican food that I ate at this place?  This place states that they are authentic but sadly the only two things I really see authentic was the alcohol and music.

Since I am from Texas and ate Mexican food all so often, I lowered my expectation in Mexican food out here in Hawaii.  They could of cooked it with some taste, the food was just plain bland!  No attempt towards unfeigned Mexican flavors or even Tex-Mex.  All I have to say is, good thing I had a Michelada to help me finish up my food.

Nothing great about this place besides my company, therefore this post is short.

Bottom-line:  You are better off going to the border at Taco Bell.

Doraku Sushi

White Dragon Roll
Two hungry girls from Tejas ended up at this chic sushi joint by lets say chance.

Dimmed, a Buddha statue, red background, yeah... I think I seen a sushi restaurant like this before, no?  As ya'll can picture it, this place pretty much looked like your typically trendy sushi restaurant found in almost any big metropolitan area.  Date spot I can tell you.  Maybe a blind date, since you can barely see your eating companion's face.  Ok, mean joke!  I'll take that one back.

The main objective of the night was eating delicious food since we were extremely hunger from kayaking earlier that day.  All I have to say is, I totally did not eat like a abstemious person!  Me + Sushi = Big Belly

The was our food selection of the night:

Calamari Tempura - Fried food.  What can possible go wrong?  Let's say this restaurant pass the test.  This dish was cooked correctly and was yummy but not something totally outstanding.

Maguro Tuna Nigri - Fish was good quality.

White Dragon Roll -  3 out of 5 stars.  The sushi roll was made correctly meaning everything stayed in one piece when I picked it up and put it in my mouth.  I just found the garlic chip being a till bit overwhelming for the roll.  For some reason the only thing I remember on the taste of the roll was the garlic kick aftermath.  Let's say I don't care much for this dish.

Doraku Roll
Doraku Roll - This was my highlight of the meal other than the alcohol.  I usually don't order deep fried sushi or a roll with cream cheese because the it doesn't taste like a sushi roll for me.  This roll has definitely proved me wrong!  The cream cheese in the roll blended well with the other stuff in there to the point you can barely taste it.  The exterior of the roll was fried to a good amount to just have the crispy texture without killing the chewy stuff inside.  Let's say this will be ordered again in the future.

This restaurant is worth a try, it hasn't totally won me over yet. Let's say I need to revisit it.

Casablanca Couscous and Grill

Lamb Couscous
Moroccan food?  Yeah, I was totally clueless on that subject before I paid a visit to Casablanca Couscous and Grill.  I really found out about this place by driving by it on my way home from the gym.  Let's say, putting a camel on your store front sign will definitely catch my attention!

Casablanca has a very homey feel to the place since it's literally a house made into a restaurant. The food was tasty and well-prepared.  Since this was my first time eating Moroccan food, my opinion to saying its legit would have a 50/50 chance on it being correct.  It's like saying Panda Express is authentic.

The only small complaint I have was the dishes being individuals rather than family-style.  I read a review on b-4-u-eat.com and someone said there was one family dinner meal, well lets say the waiter had no idea what I was talking about.  Useless review!

The likes/must tries:
-Beef Tagines
-Kofta Tagines
-Soup of the day (the one we had was pretty good)

The reason why I didn't like the Lamb Couscous much was because it was extremely fatty.  My eating preference polluted my mind on my opinion towards that dish, therefore no review.

It's been over a month since I ate here, so I am not able to recall all the names to the dishes I had.  All I remember is the food can be a little bit on the heavy side.  Be warned!  No gym session right after dinner!

This restaurant is a toss-up (try it if you wish.)

So today I ate...

Breakfast
Started my day off with a butter croissant from Costco with a cup of fat free milk.  Very simple to the point I almost forgot to take a picture of it.

I have to admit that this blog topic will be hard to keep up since I forget to take a picture of my food before I dig it.  Oops!  I forgot to take a picture of what I ate for early lunch today!  Just to say it was just leftovers from the night before.

Orange Cream flavored ice cream on a sugarcome

After a day at the beach, I swung by Flavormania for an ice cream fix.

Mushroom broth, beef tongue, rice stick, greens
For dinner I had Taiwanese hotpot at Sweet Home Cafe.  Lets just say I have never ate hotpot this way before.  I will blog a review on this place after my second visit.

So yay to eating today!  =)

Tandoori Nite

L-R:  Daal Makhni, ?, ?, Tandoori Chicken  -August 27, 2010
My favorite nite of the week!  Unlike most food truck, this one doesn't involve a chase down.  Parked outside a Phillip 66 station is Tandoori Nite, a wonderful Indian/Paki food establishment in Houston, TX.  I know the thought of eating outside by a gas station isn't the most appealing to a lot of people, but you should just suck it up and give it a try because it is truly a gem.

I first read about this place at http://www.29-95.com/restaurants/story/all-indian-food-truck-family and recruited my foodie gang for a new venture that very day.  After that first visit, we all decided to bookmark this spot for future Indian food cravings.

The must try list:
-Tandoori Chicken (The chicken is moist and not dry!)
-Butter Chicken
-Daal Makhni
-The rice

Like most Indian food, it's really heavy and can't be the most healthy thing to eat in the world.  So I would recommend a trip to the gym the next day after eating this food goodness.

I don't like to hype up things to the point you would be extremely disappointed.  All I have to say is Tandoori Nite is a MUST TRY!
